BJP ELECTION RALLY IN KOTA

Being the ruling party along with its allies, the BJP party which otherwise seems to be full of confidence appeared to be on the defensive during the election rally held in Kota as the state is knocking at the door of the coming Assembly Elections. The President of the Party, however was all confidence, wit and humour hat come to him as the leaves come to the trees. He spoke at length praising the attitude of the Indian people towards the Muslim brethren (this happens only in Inda style). He was all praise for the BJP's emphasis on connectivity linking regions, peoples , media and the waters and lands. He defended the emphasis on Hindutava given by the BJP saying that Hindutava talk does not imply religious bigotry but it has geographical overtone only. He implied that the terms Bharat and Hindustan were synonymous and not contradictory in terms.

The Party during these elections is using a strategy keeping in mind that the message over the speakers sounds pleasant on the ears of the people and not a noise. The campaign has thus taken a melodious turn- perhaps encouraged by a poet P.M. whose poems have been sung by the Ghazal Mughal of the continent. The impression given during the rally was that the BJP is more nationalist-minded, yolerant towards the minorities and trying to give real democratic feed as compared to the Congress which has used the policy of 'divide and rule' inherited from the British.

The rally was fairly well attended in which some emotional youngsters called the Kota city MLA from the ruling Congress a thief who has been minting money in te name of development. The BJP candidate for the coming elections Mr. Birla also charged
Mr. Dhariwal of corruption. It was said that the projects promised had all not been completed and the fountains did not serve the public utility and those which could have benefited the masses had been left uncomplete - with the tounge-in -the- cheek style,it was said that the fountains do not fill the belly of the poor although they had an aesthetic value. It was claimed that the BJP Govt. had been liberal in giving the grants to the States ruled even by the opposite parties - a thing which was not done during the Congress rule.

But there is no denying the fact that Mr. Dhariwal is a much stronger candidate than his opposing BJP candidate. It is said that after Mr. Lalit Kishore Chaturvedi backed out from facing a man like Dhariwal, the people supporting BJP have got demoralised as far as Kota City constituency is concerned. It really seems that Dhariwal, who is maing every effort to humour the population of Kota, is going to win hands down nd he is being ably supported by people like Ravindra Tyagi nd his young lieutenant Rajendra Sankhla. However at this point of time it is difficult to say with that confidense about the entire State. The BJP is also rightly claiming to be in the favor of the empowerment of women and at a time when political awareness among the women is on the rise day by day. the women of Rajasthan have of late started asserting themselves as is apparent from the style of Vsundhra Raje and Usha Puniya. The Party which is able to woo the women and the minorities can and will have no fear of losing. The people would do well by not being led astray by the demagogues and by voting the candidate on the basis of merit in case they want the real taste of democracy in a not-so-politically developed country. The media have a great responsibility in educating the people. They have to learn how to avoid yellow journalism and greed of favors. Amen!
